Our Dining Suggestions

La Source in Castelnaud La Chapelle, the food is good and staff are nice. There are nice views of the Castle if you can sit outside. If the Cabecou starter is available it is out of this world. Likely to be busy so a reservation is advisable.  Castelenaud is about 15 minutes from us.  See the link opposite for restaurant reviews, menus and location.

La Domaine de Monrecour is 20 minutes from us. Fine dining, but the lunch menu is good value. Likely to be busy so a reservation is advisable. Smart casual attire for this restaurant. Click link opposite for restaurant reviews and details.

Ferme Auberge Le Colombier La Roque-Gageac offers the best of the local dishes that we have had.  Again about 15 minutes from us.  The fois gras feuillte and confit de canard are the best that we have had. The tables outside are lovely, inside has less atmosphere. Likely to be busy so a reservation is advisable, see link opposite for restaurant details and reviews.

La Taverne in St Cyprien, good food and staff, lovely to sit outside with nice view of St. Cyprien, inside has less atmosphere. The Pluma de Porc is our favourite dish. Likely to be busy so a reservation is advisable. St. Cyprien is about 35/40 minutes from us but a lovely drive if you go via La Roque-Gageac/Beynac. A slightly cheaper option to the above suggestions. See link opposite for details.

Diablo Fraise in Bourg Nabirat offers a great value lunch for € 18.00. 4 courses, coffee and wine is included!  A Husband and wife team run the restaurant, so you get what is in the pot (a nice experience). We like it!  The bread served is delicious and you can buy the same bread in the local bakery but be careful as it is a monster size so you will have have to share it with us.  Likely to be busy so a reservation is advisable. The restaurant is about 10 minutes from us.

Auberge Le Mirandol in Sarlat, offers a good menu of the local dishes.   The tables outside on the street are lovely right in the middle of the medieval town. inside is an ancient building and interesting. Distance to Sarlat from us is about 25 minutes during peak season. Restaurant is likely to be busy so a reservation is advisable.

For snacks try Les Delices de La Noix in Domme, 15 minutes from us, and indulge in the best tarte noix caramel around.  The location at the top of Doome is spectacular too.  Another snack suggestion is Les Courtines in La Roque-Gageac, same distance.  This is a very relaxed setting and very scenic.

These are some of our favourite places to eat near to the farmhouse.  Another guest favourite is to cook in the gite in the well equipped modern kitchen.  However, most popular is the outdoor tiled barbeque space with both gas and charcoal options.  The gas is complementary for guest stays.  The many food stalls at the local markets provide a wide choice of fresh produce for many lovely picnics back at the gite or down by the river (a cooler is available on request).  Check with us regarding the markets and the different days for these. You are also very close to the very large supermarkets and a fabulous cheese counter close by in Cenac St. Julien and in Sarlat for cheese lovers.  There are numerous bakeries to chose from.
